Fun with Cooking

This week has been an exciting week in the kitchen. We have done a lot of cooking. I am attempting at enjoying myself in the kitchen and hopefully feeding my kids yummy stuff too.
We made our homemade applesauce....that was a success and so yummy. Next I made a Butternut Squash Soup....yummy but the kids refused to eat it. So we froze it and it will feed Brian and I on the days I don't feel much like cooking. Then today I boiled a chicken...after taking all the skin off(that was an adventure)....and we de-boned it once it was cooked all the way and are using the meat in homemade enchiladas. I then strained the broth and will freeze it for homemade chicken broth. I think it is always great to have broth on hand....for simple soups and when a little sickness comes in the house unexpected. So there is the fun and new things that I attempted this week. I am already trying to think ahead to next week, what new things can I learn and try ????? Ideas????

Homemade Applesauce

It was a daunting task for this supermarket kind of gal....what you wonder is that???? I have never really been a make it from scratch kind of gal....if you can buy it at the grocery store....why make it at home has always been my thinking! Kind of scary!!!! Well I am making an effort to make more from scratch for my family. So for example I made Belgium waffles on Monday morning for them and had enough to freeze for breakfast for the whole week. I will do pancakes next Monday. Not only is it fun, healthier but CHEAPER!!!! So the girls and I went for it and made applesauce. It is very good for you and cheap to make as well. Here are some pics of our fun. It was so yummy. I have never had hot fresh applesauce....so yummy. And the super cool thing was all I had to buy was the apples....and then you add your seasonings to taste as you like it.....AMAZING!

So they are home and we are doing school here.....hopefully we get ahead for the week.
I discovered I like Beets!!!!! Crazy!
And I discovered how cool the Starbucks app on my phone is!
Still maintaining my weight loss and staying with my goal range!
Dropping coffee and soda sure makes me appreciate other liquids more (teas, chai, lemonade, water!)
But the smell of coffee still brings a smile to my face.....its just so tempting that I have to avoid the kitchen while it is brewing.
The countdown in on....
My sister and her family will officially be on US soil in 4 days!

Not sure if the plan will stay the same as we make it thru the week but I have gone grocery shopping (finally!) and have a plan for the week.

Thur: Enchiladas

Sat: Vegetable soup (chicken?)
Sun: Kielbasa

Hopefully we won't detour too much from this. But life happens and sometimes we need to. Whats your plan for meals this week?

A little craft for mama

Awhile back my sister in law Lindsey gave my mother in law a set of wooden letters that spelt the word "SEW". My mother in law hangs them in her sewing room.....what makes these letters super cool? She applied scrapbook type paper to the letters and made them into something more than just plain white letters.

So with this in mind and a bottle of handy dandy mod podge I sought out some letters. Rory has a birthday party tomorrow for her twin friends Maya and Claire. So I thought this would be cool to do for them and kind of test it out on them too....being they are only 9.....So we went and got some paper that suits their personalities and their initials and I went to work.

Now I am not even close to Lindsey's talent with these letters.....but I am proud for getting it to work and look somewhat decent. I definitely have some learning to do but it was still a fun project.

This was a recnt project of Abi's from her Home Arts class at 4H. She used a piece of wood, paint, velum and mod podge and some glue.....pretty sweet!

Well for the last year (2011) I was doing a block of the month quilt block from a Local Quilt Shop (The Crazy Nine Patch). Well we did four blocks a month and I have finished Decembers blocks finally. So now I am ready to move on to trimming them down to all the same size. And then to start laying them out and come up with a plan for my design. That is the fun part and yet the most stressful because once you put it all together its final....no more changing it (well unless you want to pick seams out). Here are some of my blocks. I did two different set of blocks...one was 1800's reproduction and the other was black & white with a pop bright color.

1. I can not even believe that I have not posted on my blog for so long! I feel so guilty about it!!!! So sad that a slow computer will cause that.
2. But happy to report once again that I have a new computer!!! It boots up so fast and it is super easy to use!
3. However I think the key pad is a bit different so I keep hitting things like caps lock, home, page up....and then it gets all messed up. But I am working on it.
4. So I have a new iphone....but I don't know how to get my pics off of it to put on my computer?????Anyone????
5. I am new to all this technology phone stuff.....but I so LOVE IT!
6. I use all the fun gadgets on my phone all the time...Siri is amazing!
7. On a different note.....I have taken a friends advice on a book series(thanks Nanette) and I started the Outlander Series....and oh my gosh is all I can say....so I am on the last book now....anxious to find out if there will be another book.....
8. Sewing projects are coming along....I have a few things I am trying to finish up. I will post about those soon. (now that I am back up and running on this sucker)
9. Did I mention my sister is moving back to the states!!!!! Exciting news! I am so thrilled for us and for them. We look forward to talking to each other over the phone....and faster mail service and getting to visit more often.....even though it will still be a drive to see them its better than flying to Russia!

It has been an absolutely perfect beginning to the new year here in San Diego!!!! Brian and I had the opportunity to spend a weekday together sans kids.....so we decided to hit the beach and just soak up the rays. It was 84 degrees inland and 72ish in Del Mar!!!! Perfect!!!!! So we enjoyed walking on the beach and hanging out and enjoying a perfect day in January in San Diego!!!!

Since then the weather has stayed sunny (no rain) but the temps have dropped a bit but they will be picking back up.....I am anxious. The kids and I spent last Wednesday at the beach all day....I have to admit it felt so good just absorbing all the sunshine. I loved it. They loved it. I can't for more days like that.

I finally have a new computer to be able to post from. My old computer got so old and "frail" that posting to my blog from it became such a chore and honestly I was afraid it just mind burst into flames while I was typing. So we ordered a new one over a month ago but I did not know it had to come direct from China....hence the long wait. So here it is on my dining room table and working wonderfully. Fast and quiet!

So I can blog once more!!!! Yay!

The numbers are in!!!

So how long has it been since I checked in weight wise...I am guessing awhile! So back in March of this year I put it out there to be honest and just share with others what my weight is and my goals along the way on this journey. In March I weighed 170 and my goal at the time was to loose 10 pounds in the month of March....I met that goal and maintained. My long term goal was to get down to 150lbs. I hit 152 right before vacation in July....well we all know what happens when you go on vacation...yup you put on a few. So I can back at 154...not bad...I was expecting at least a 5 pound increase but I took the 2 pounds instead with a smile and focused on getting to my 150 mark. I have hit the 150 goal last month and still the numbers are dropping. I am now at 147lbs. I am pleased with this. It shows not only that I can maintain the original goal I set for myself but that I can continue to drop. I also set a goal for myself originally of a pants size....not knowing what size complimented what weight I set out to be content in a size 10....well 10's fit nice but a bit loose...but 8's are still a little snug....but we are on our way. I am pleased with these results. I feel healthier and that makes me smile. I feel more fit and it is way easier to shop for clothes when you feel like you can shop without making so many exceptions. So to date I have lost 37 pounds since July of 2010.

Is this possible that I am considering if this a real word....maybe one of those new fangled words???So I have been following a blog for about a year now and the blogger has a challenge for all the gals that read it....to remember some of those daily things that we put aside to make our selves feel good about ourselves....like showering, make-up, actually doing your hair, putting on clean nice clothes!!! I was shocked that someone actually was speaking this out loud!!! But I totally know what she was talking about....how many times have I left the house thinking "who cares?" yup....I am sure my hubby appreciates the shower, clean clothes, scented lotion or perfume...and of course not in my PJ's when he gets home. So I have been working on this task of remembering the simple things this week....honestly showering is not a problem but the make-up or doing my hair....well that is my struggle. I can say(with slight embarrassment) that I actually considered dropping off the girls at school in my PJ's today...who would notice??? Well I did not...I showered, dressed and now I am thankful because I think my day would have have started off slower and I would have possibly put myself back to bed!!!! So here is to remembering the little things to beautify myself for my hubby!!!! And to make me feel wonderful too!!!!

10 on Tuesday

I left the house this morning at 730am and got back at a quarter to 9 tonight!!!!

I feel a bit crazy! No one should have to be gone that long in one day!

Rory and Abi joined 4H!!!! I am so jealous! I totally wanted to be part of that when I was younger.

So Rory had her 4H sewing meeting tonight. They started a stuffed animal and pajama bottoms. I am so excited for her!!!

Abi is doing a Home Arts project with 4H....we will see how that goes for her.

We have a bout 1 month left of swim team before I pull Rory out for the winter. That will give us the opportunity to take part in some other fun stuff.

I have decided a need a hands on lesson on how to work with an electric cook top. I have used gas for almost 10 years and this electric thing is killing me....I am officially NOT checked off on it!

I can not believe how well Abi is reading....I am so proud of her....and she is using words that are so big!!!! Yay for learning!

I need a new book to read! Any suggestions????

Sad to say but I am just not looking forward to Halloween this year...it just adds to the stress and I am kind of done with stress!

Quick Drive By

Just a quick drive by of a hello!!!! I am still alive and here!!! We have spent the last few weeks packing and moving. And now that we are moved we have been prepping our house that we just moved out of for a tenant!!! O my goodness we are going to be landlords!!! But it has been crazy work....moving alone is hard but prepping a house is tough work...painting, patching, fixing things you got used to not working, cleaning, fixing...did I mention that!!!! But good news is this should be our last weekend working on the place as our new tenant moves in in like 9 days or something. Brian and I are just so over going between 2 places...we want to work on this new place we call home. Since we do not own this new place there is only so much we can do....but we are adding curtains and we have new blinds and hanging pics and adding our furniture have all helped make it home to us.

I will be back with some pics and some more....soon I promise.

Mug Rug Swap

This summer my friend Susie and I came up with the idea that we wanted to do a crafty sewing swap....so we decided together on a Mug Rug....if you are not sure what this is then you need to google it. There are so many of these Mug Rugs out there and I truly believe it is getting even more popular as fabric is getting ever more expensive ( I heard there is a cotton shortage...what???). So we went on the hunt for more gals that wanted to participate. We have a total of 12 of us across the country and even one in Canada! So we all got paired up with someone new and off into crafty mode! Now it is time for us to mail them and get them to our partners....so I finished wrapping mine up today and it is off to post office....a sad but happy goodbye....I really loved the Mug Rug I made! I loved the fabric.....!!!! I hope my partner enjoys it just as much! So here are some pics!!!

Reflecting

9/11 is today....10 years ago seems like yesterday. It has been all over the news all week and Rory finally asked me what it was. Nothing hits you in the stomach more than having to explain such a horrible and evil event to your children. I think I tripped over my words more than my wedding vows....Trying not to scare her or put fear about planes, traveling etc., I explained about evil and then what took place and the outrage of Americans and what we did to stand up for our country...the patriotic spirit that took over the country and the love for country that sparkled all over our nation. It was so hard to talk about it in an educational sense and not from how I felt about it as it was happening before my eyes first hand.

I have reflected this past week more than once to my morning on 9/11/01.....before kids....I had to be at work early...I always put on the news while I was getting ready in the morning...I walked by the TV to get something and just froze....I screamed to Brian (who was still sleeping) to come and see the TV. We both just sat and could not believe it. Tears and fear were instant. Work was tough that day. I don't think anyone expected it to be more than one plane...but as the reports came of more planes my day got more foggy. I can not tell you what happened later that day or maybe even the next day. But I do know that Red White and Blue appeared everywhere I turned....and the sense of Patriotism could bring you to tears.

As I type this I have tears...not because of sadness or fear but because I love my country so much and something like the National Anthem brings me to tears every time I hear it so something like the amazing Americans who go and fight for us and protect us and the Americans who hang the flag outside their home and the Americans who wave flags....I just love it all....I am so blessed to be an American and to live in this wonderful country. I think sometimes we need to look past "administration issues" and know that we are all still Americans and we still have a wonderful and Blessed country and we should all be proud and we should all be waving Old Glory everyday!

May we never forget 9/11 and then what happened after that and how we felt as a people and what we did to stand for our freedom! But may we never let 9/11 define who we are...may we use it to help mold our character and faith. May we not fear or worry and let us trust in the Lord.

A little 3D action!

We had our second birthday celebration for Abi on Tuesday. Back in July we gave her tickets to Disneyland but told her it would be a delayed trip till after summer....giving the tourists time to go home and make it less crowded for us. So we went on what I think was the hottest day of the entire year....humid and hot @ Disneyland makes for a hard day. But we survived with lots of water and Air Conditioned rides. Abi had a great time. She is now officially tall enough for Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, The Grizzly River Run, Goofy's Flight School....so we had lots of new and exciting memories made. It was also my first time on The Grizzly River Ride...I always opted out of getting soaked and stood with Abi while Brian and Rory road that in the past....but this time not only did we get soaked once but twice....we went first ride of the day hoping we would dry off for the rest of the day and then we also made it our last ride of the day!!!! It was a refreshing way to both start and end the day!

First week of School-Done!

Last week went by speedy fast! We had our first 3 days of home school and the girls went to school on T/Th. They met their teachers and saw their friends after a long summer break! We all enjoyed the day apart!!!
We survived the home part of school. It will take some getting used to this year. The charter school we go to is getting "high tech" so all of our school info and assignments are on a wiki and we need to download and go online...so we are all learning how to do this new system together. But the girls were champs (honestly better than I was).
Now we are enjoying our 3day weekend....we are actually going to do school on Monday (labor day) because we are going to use Tuesday to go to The Happiest Place on Earth....YAY!!!!
So wish us luck with school and a fun family day thrown in the mix this week....

Oh my goodness it has been so long! Summer came at us at full speed the middle of July and never slowed down a bit! So since my last post we went on vacation and decided to move (which doesn't happen till next month) and get ready for school.

So I need to catch up on all the fun stuff from summer....so then I can start on what is going on now.

Our vacation to New Orleans and Panama City Beach, Florida went great! It is so much fun to head down there and chill for 10 days!!! Nothing like a vacation!!!! And the older the kids have gotten the more I enjoy them! I no longer have to pack "gear" and toys and stuff....the kids can swim on their own, and they go to bed at the right time!!!! So vacation has become a fun thing now! Our flights were great and the kids did amazing!

We came back with plenty of time to enjoy the beach here and summer here at home! And since last week I have been prepping for the school year for a 3rd grader and 1st grader!!!

And in the middle of life I am packing a bit here and there for our move next month. I don't mind packing it gives me the opportunity to clean out everything....but it sure is a slow process with little people around all day....

We see ourselves everyday in the mirror and I don't see much change day in and day out.....but this past week I was reviewing some pics and found some of me and I was shocked!!!! I did not know that life had changed me so much already! I know that "aging" takes place but really in the last 6 years since Abi has been born I have managed to snag a few wrinkles on my face and new "creases"....my face appears to have aged....how is it I have not seen it? Well I am sure life just has a way of doing that! The good and the bad...the laugh lines and the frowning....all add to the changes I have seen in the comparisons between the then and now pics....

Del Mar Fair 2011

We headed to the Del Mar Fair this week....another year done!!! And the kids are happy....and that is what matters. The rides were a success....the girls had a good time....and they are tall enough to ride them without any adults (milestone!).

These shots are while the girls were on the swings...now with the type of camera we have it is not easy to get shots of them on a moving ride...so for the few that we got we deleted about double that!!!!

They just look so happy!!!! Pure bliss!!!! Childhood=all fun at the fair!

This used to be my favorite at the fair when we would go when I was little...and both of the girls loved it....!

I think she may be riding one of these in about 20 years!!!!

Soccer Review

Abi finished her Soccer season at the local YMCA...phew! (I was glad because only the last game was super hot and unbearable) So she was excited to play soccer....but she was stoked about getting a shirt with the number 6 on the back....because she is going to be 6!!! And she got "chin pads" or shin pads, snacks and gatorade at every game...and the best part was she got a medal at the end of the season!!!! She was so excited!!!!!

Friday Update

We made it to Friday...Its the last Friday in June and we have officially been doing "summer" stuff for a month now. We are in the full swing of swim lessons for Abi. She is really showing improvement. She can swim across the deep end and tread water. I am so proud of her....since she has been so dependant on floaties. But no more floaties around here!!!! So we have one more week of lessons and we will have done a total of 3 weeks...and we are going to take a break (I think). Rory is back on swim team. And I think she is having fun....funny how the act of going to practice may not be exciting but getting to see your friends and chat it up with them is the fun part...whatever it takes to get her there...right? We have hit up the beach, pool, Del Mar Fair, bookstore, library....and we still have plenty more on our list to do.

So Friday is here today and I am looking forward to a relaxing day! Just some hanging out around the house and then to the pool this afternoon for the girls.

A general update on my weight loss goals....as a reminder I have a goal of 150lbs. I have been on Medifast since last July. From July to December of 2010 I lost 14 pounds. Then we took a small break when everyone got so sick in our house....In March we kicked it up a notch....I lost 10 pounds in March and since then I have lost an additional 9...so what does that put me at...33 pounds lost! And I only have 1 more pound to go till I hit my goal!!!!! I am a little shocked! But it has been a real adventure...and its been really eye opening and exciting! I have dropped to my goal size of a 10 and in some items I am now an 8. So as I approach my goal I am reminded that this is not a temporary change...this is something I want to stay like this...so I still have to work hard and be consistent in my workouts and healthy eating habits.

So we are really excited to be finishing up school this week. I have completed another round of Kindergarten and my first time through second grade!!! Yay! Now a short summer break before we tackle first grade and third grade (holy cow I can not believe I will have a third grader!)

But before we can do that we are gonna take on the summer. So I have been making my lists of stuff to do this summer....just in case I wake up one day and we are all bored. So enjoy the list.....

12 Years!

June 5th, 1999....2 babies getting married...no cares in the world about what's next.....

12 years later....2 kids and a dog later....life has happened and will continue to happen...and we take it one step at a time...together!

Happy Anniversary!!!! It has been 12 years!!!! Brian and I were married here in San Diego (specifically Coronado) 12 years ago on June 5th. So we took the day to ourselves...all I wanted was kick back and nothing fancy. So we went down to the fish market for drinks and appetizers. Then we walked down to Seaport Village and walked around the embarkadero. Then we headed to Fashion Valley mall for more walking and window shopping. Then we hit up the Cheesecake Factory. Yummy dinner. We took our cheesecake to go. Walked to dog down to the local red box for a movie. Watched our movie with cheese cake, wine and coffee....no stress, no kids, just relaxing and easy going. PERFECT!

Family Time

We decided that yesterday was a beautiful day for a family hike!!!! It was 70 degrees here in San Diego and blue sky was everywhere....so all we had to do was decide where we were headed!
So we ventured up the 67 to Mt. Woodsen. We did the easier side of the mountain....even though it still is tough for little people...it is the easier side of the mountain to hike up. So we headed up the path...lucky for us it is paved the entire way...but it is super steep! A little huffing and puffing and some tears from the little people in tow....we slowly made our way up the mountain! Here are some cool examples of erosion in the rocks....kind of funky!

Smile! We decided to take a break and sit on some rock and look to the East at the amazing view!

Overall it was a great hike...I think next time if I had the girls I would not try to go all the way to the top on the first try...and its a booger on your knees on the way down...bring plenty of water...and if you like to rock climb/boulder then this is the place to go...we saw tons of folks up there bouldering(?).

It was a great day despite the tears and length of the hike...and to reward our little people we got 31 flavors afterwards! And all were happy!

Market Bag

Here is my newest creation...and I am in love with it. It is the Jane Market Bag. You can find it here. My friend Susie and I made it this past weekend when I went up to visit her for the holiday weekend. It was so much fun doing something I have never done before....honestly it is kind of scary doing something out of my comfort zone. But it was so so much fun. It is honestly the easiest bag ever. All straight seems and easy instructions. In love with it! There is an official Flicker page devoted to these bags...have a looksy!

If you have Lemons...

Yup you guessed it...we had lemons....so we made LEMONADE! This was my first attempt at homemade lemonade. It was fun and easy! Of course I googled how to make it....and there ya have it....several lemons later we had 2quarts of lemonade ready to go!

As you can see my nifty little ipad was in the background because that was my recipe book...I cannot believe I can google it right there in my kitchen and read it from the counter that I am attempting to make the lemonade from....is this just so amazing to anyone else? Anyways...go and make some lemonade today it will make you smile!

Rory and I took a field trip today to Balboa Park to visit the Ancient Egypt Exhibit at the Museum of Man. We had a few picture stops along the way. All the gardens look AMAZING there right now....if you have not been by there recently you should pack a lunch and take a trek down there.

Weekend Away...

The girls and I ventured out this weekend. We loaded up the car and headed into a great adventure. We drove up to Edwards Air Force Base and visited with a great friend. I met Susie when her family was stationed here in San Diego and we both were in the same Bunco group. Since then her family has moved to Ohio and back...just a little north of us. So we decided a little visit was in order! We took all of our girls...5 in total to the bowling alley....so much fun! It was fun to see them have fun and just be kids...laughing and playing. This pic above is Abi "attempting" to bowl.

Here is the sewing project Susie and I took on....a bag!!!! It was so much fun! We had a great time sewing and chatting and sewing....fun stuff!

It was a fun weekend...swimming...playing...swinging on the porch...yummy food....sewing...giggling...

Birthday=Quilt

My friend Kat had a birthday this month...however we did not get to celebrate together until today....so I have held off giving her the present until today. We had scheduled a day away from kids and house to just chill and hang out.....what we really wanted to do was chill at the beach but it was a bit too chilly for that...so we had a great "brunch" and then hit up the movies together.

I was so thrilled to be able to make this for her. I am finding it harder to part with my quilts as I am enjoying the colors and styles.....but I know she will get good use of it.

I made this quilt for Eric for Christmas and have been wanting a picture since then....well it took Brian going out there and taking one of it for it to happen....here it is! The colors reminded me of New Orleans...you see a lot of deep colors and purple down there...Thanks Eric!

Last night with just us girls here...

Brian comes back tomorrow morning from his "long weekend" away in New Orleans.

Jealous! Yes!

It rained here today....crazy! I am so confused by this weather.

The girls only have 3 weeks left of school...is it sad that I am trying to rush them through it to get to the end?

We bought the movie Tangled for the girls...and since then I think I have watched it at least once a day....so over it!

So so so needing a haircut....so so so much!

Trying to decide if I should go drastic or just the norm for the next cut....

Sure freaks me out when the dog growls and barks at nothing...makes me wonder what she knows that I don't!

Looking forward to getting to have coffee with my hubby first thing in the morning when he lands at the airport.

I so missed 10 on Tuesday....man oh man....I even tried to remind myself yesterday....well here is my attempt to make up for yesterday.

Brians Birthday is next week....

So of course it only makes sense to have celebrated it yesterday.

Well it was really so we could give him a suprise trip we all had planned and pitched in for....

He leaves Saturday for NOLA>

NOLA is New Orleans, Louisiana for those of you that may not know.

Of course he is going out there while there is this grand potential for New Orleans to flood worse than post Katrina if the spillways in northern Louisiana are not opened....

I told him he should bring his board shorts and snorkel....just in case....

he suggested an inflatable raft since he wouldn't want to be swimming with the gators!

So that puts me and the girls here for the weekend...perfect...I can get plenty of stuff done!

I am so excited Brian gets a get away and guy time with one of his best buds...thanks Eric!!!

It has been a long time since we weighed in here on my blog. We all know I did the major weight loss goal for March....I reached my goal of loosing 10 pounds...yipee!

So in April my goal was 5 pounds to loose....I lost all 5 pounds! Yippee!!!!

So that puts me officially 5 pounds from my goal of 150lbs.

So for May my goal is to reach my goal.....

Here are my thoughts:

It has been tough to stick to a plan because my hubby has been indulging and going off and enjoying my fav foods....so it is hard when you have more temptations around the house. I am back at the gym so I have to make sure to get in enough calories for the workouts I am doing...cardio and weights 3 times a week does not seem like a lot but when you are only taking in 900 calories a day its plenty.

I am a size 10 now!!!! I can not believe I started out a size 16 and now I am a 10. The last time I was a 10 was on my wedding day....12 years ago! I still enjoy putting on my size 12 jeans...they are so comfy...and loungy(if that is a word). So another 5 pounds may put me in an 8...not sure...I just went out and bought lots of 10's so maybe staying a size 10 would be better financially....not sure...I will have to get a new bathing suit for this summer....I put mine on last week...it fit everywhere except in the chest and butt....I guess those 2 areas shrunk...ok with me! So I will need to bathing suit shop...not so stressed about it with being a smaller size now...yippee!!!! That being said I am also gonna have to spluge on some new undies and bras....again smaller butt and boobs...

We had a day that was not quite what we had planned for today.I had planned on a perfect day at the beach with my favorite Pizza Port pizza for lunch. But we woke up to cloudy, overcast and windy weather. But we thought we would brave it and try it anyways.... It was sure windy on the coast....we were all bundled up...and doing fine...until the drizzle started...and then the rain...so we booked it out of there.

Both of these shots were taken before the rain came in....after we loaded up the car we headed over to Pizza Port...yummy! It was great! One benefit to going to the beach on a cloudy day is you don't have to fight anyone for parking....

We were blessed with sunshine this weekend...so of course we took that opportunity to go to our favorite local beach...it was so perfect. And the warm weather appears to be sticking around....so we look forward to maybe another beach day this week.... I can't believe I was able to catch this shot without anyone else in it...there were runners and dogs everywhere...

This just gives me a smile...I love sand and flip flops...summer is approaching!!!

2011 was a first for us....we celebrated up at Brian's parents house. The Simpson clan was in full force. It was a fun day. We were really hoping for sunshine and warm weather...but we got some cooler weather with patches of sun here and there...so when the sun popped out for a little bit we went outside to catch some fun family pics with Ruthie's amazing flowers behind us...they are just gorgeous! Easter is by far my favorite day of the entire year!!!

To know that without the true reason of Easter I would have to pay for my sins on my own (which you could never do) and that because Christ knew we needed a savior he put his own son on the cross to pay for our sins...and then to break deaths hold on him and rise from the grave on the third day!!! Amazing!!!

I am so thankful for the gift that God gave me through the cross and the life I have because of Jesus' death! It is a hard concept to wrap ones brain around but because of his death I may have life!!! Thank you Jesus!!! It gives me so much joy to celebrate Easter Day....so much to be thankful for and to remember my savior on the cross then rising again!!!

I have no camera at the moment and it is killing me...I love to take pictures and of course I love to add them to the blog....but we had a little accident and the camera hit the pavement! We thought we fixed it because it only appeared to have slightly disturbed the outer "shell" of the camera....well we are having some minor difficulties with the shutter button....so until we can decide how to move forward on this...things may be a little dull around these parts!!!!

We have been stuck in the groove of Spring Break~ Sleeping in, no school, making our own schedule, and just plain being lazy!!!!

But I am so done with all that! I want routine back....I know I must be crazy just thinking that but its hard not living within your regular routine...the kids need it and I need it!

So we go into Friday with the happiness of Good Friday and the Celebration of Easter but also knowing that life will be back to normal and routine come Monday!!!!

Today is my first post of weigh in stuff in awhile....so here ya go.... Today's weight: 158.1

Its a good thing even though this process is so slow. I have 8 pounds now left to go and it is the hardest. I have heard the last 10 is the hardest to drop but this is killing me. All last week I was at 159.5 and steady not up,not down! So at least there is some change here.

Brian and I have our 5k Race this weekend. Well I would not say we are racing....just in it to have some fun! And of course finish it! I will have pics to post hopefully!

I had to measure up and cut out all these little squares... Eventually we finished up all these cuts and they were in the proper size square...next up...making them triangles!

Rory made it to her 3rd sewing class today. She was so excited and really pumped up for what they were planning on making today.....she went to the fabric store earlier this week for her fabric, pattern and elastic. Yup....she made pajama bottoms!!!! I just think that is so cool. She followed a pattern...had to pin, cut, sew...including the elastic....She did a little dance tonight when she put them on for bed time....

This is a project I have never done...I guess I have some catching up to do! Can't you just see how excited she is!!!

This week went so so fast....I am happy about that!

In order to keep myself from snacking at night I have become even more obsessed with reading at night! So far it is working.

Looking forward to a mini trip next month to see a friend....looking forward to all the fun we are going to have!

Abi informed me today that since I was in my pajamas when dropping them off at school I was to stay in the car....good thinking Abi!

My Date Day-recap!

The girls have school today...so I used my day for me today...its the first time since they started school that I have used a Tue or Thur for me. I normally use it to run errands, go grocery shopping and clean the house without them behind me making it all messy again!

But today I dropped them off, in my pajamas! Came back home and crawled back in bed....it felt so good to do that. Then I had a date to get ready for...with my man! So out of bed I rolled ready for a fun day. I was just hoping this gloomy weather would hold off long enough for us to enjoy the day we had planned.

We had this date planned for 2 weeks now...you see it took some planning with schedules! Its crazy how busy your life is when you actually want to have a whole day off!

I borrowed my sister in law's golf clubs (which I fell in love with....they are so pretty....which Brian laughed when I mentioned that). And Brian and I had a date to hit golf balls...I thought this would be a 30 minute thing or something.....NOPE! Its surprisingly much longer when you have no idea how to make contact with that little white ball! After a few pointers no make that A LOT of pointers on everything from form to distance I tried swinging. I did make contact with the ball. It went 10 feet...it rolled...it went far....it was very pretty seeing that little white ball fly thru the air.

I was sure tired after a bucket full of balls....so we headed off to lunch after all that work. It was great to just sit and eat and hang out....and for those you that have been following my blog...we had an Oscars salad with fat free greek dressing and a side of ribs...and we split it all....it was a perfect amount and perfect for our diet!

Looking back on pics today....sometimes looking back on the pics of your kiddos gives you a natural pick me up....

I just love this shot of Abi...her crazy hair....she has her binky of course....This must have been before she turned 2...because that is when I went crazy on taking away that stinkin' binky!!!!

And this picture melts my heart....Abi was days over being 1....and we got Sally when she was 8 weeks old. At that point Abi was bigger than Sally...and they quickly became buddies....Abi went for all the dog toys and Sally went for all of Abi's toys....

How to do Dinner?

I sure hope I am not the only one who has problems getting "creative" with dinner. Meals can become so mundane....I get used to the same meals and doing them over and over again. I don't get any complaints but I just think they have to be getting sick of eating the same old stuff....

Tonight I decided to see what I could do with the chicken that I had not done in a long time...I found a little pasta sauce some provolone cheese and baked it all together for a little chicken Parmesan (minus the bread crumbs)....and the kids are eating it all up!!!! I also bought a bag of frozen broccoli at the store and made a HUGE mistake...I did not buy the florets...I bought chopped broccoli...so they are attempting to eat tiny bits of broccoli...oh well...I tried!

I had fun making these three fun small and simple quilts. They are small enough to be table runner's or big enough to be a nice gift for a baby or little kid.... So here is how you can make one:

Finished size 29x32

Fabric Requirements:

Focal center fabric: fat quarter or a 17x20 piece of fabric

Inner Border: 1/8 yard-cut into (2) 1 1/2" strips by WOF

Middle Border: 1/4 yard- cut into (3) 2 1/2" strips by WOF

Outer Border: 1/3 yard- cut into (3) 3 1/2" strips by WOF

Binding: 1/4 yard- cut into (3) 2 1/2" strips by WOF

Backing: 1 yard

(WOF= width of fabric)

Directions:

Trim center to be 17x20

Cut all borders as indicated above. Sew each border into one long strip.

Sew the inner border on the top and bottom of the Center. Press and Trim to the Center. Add the inner border to the sides. Press and trim.

Sew on middle border and outer border in the same manner as inner border.

Finish:

To finish you can hand or machine quilt it or just sew front and back together with right sides together and turn it. Add a couple of ties to hold the batting in and you are set. Trim options include adding cute ribbons or trim with jumbo rick rac.

This took me about 1 hour a piece....its a great gift for teachers, friends, housewarmings...lots can be done with it....Hope you have as much fun as I did with these.

The month long wait is over!!!!!

We made it to April 1st....I weighed in at 170 at the beginning of the month and here we are April 1st... a month later and I weigh in at 160....So this is my single before shot...its hard to see with my coat on...but oh well....I still don't see a huge difference...but I feel a huge difference....

Yup....I got it!

And its getting flatter...not so many "rolls"

So my biggest thing during this weight loss time has been to be a size 10...I only own 1 pair of 10's that I gave to my sister when she came back from Russia about 5 years ago super duper thin that I no longer could even squeeze into...so I was a size 16 back in August and my goal was 10...I saved trying the shorts on till this morning...and wallah...they fit...comfortably...no squeezing into them!!!! I am wearing them today...too bad I only have one pair of 10's...oh well!

Well we are getting to the end of the month (one day left)....and so one day left on our intense strict diet regime...

According to my health coach I have reached my 10 pound goal this month...yippee!!!! However for my personal records I still have .8 of a pound to loose till I have lost "exactly" 10 pounds...So I am on a mission. There is no way I can do that with only one day left but I am still working towards that goal...so I will press on till I get to it...then I have 10 more pounds to go till I reach my goal of 150lbs. I think the last time I weighed in at 150 lbs was right after Brian and I got married. It will be exciting to see that number on the scale again....like old friends that have not seen each other in a long time....So I weighed in today at 161.2lbs.

So we have had a lot of work to do this month in loosing weight but we persevered....it was tough to resist the temptation of fast food and my favorite fall back....good old Mexican food! But we have made it. I am hoping to stick to this plan for the next month and see how much I can continue to loose. I will slowly start to add back in my weight training and cycle classes...( I took this month off). So I will have an official weigh in for our monthly end weight tomorrow...then I will continue to weigh in thru April.

Now for any of you who wanted to know ....the program I have been using for my weight loss goals is Medifast. I have not gone thru an official center...I have a personal Health Coach and I order my food online and have it shipped directly to me. It is by far the easiest "diet" I have ever been on. The food is good and you loose between 2-5 pounds a week on average. And I am not spending any extra on food, since I am replacing what I would be buying at the store for myself food wise and snack wise....so it has worked out just right!

Teaching skills!!!

Rory turned 8 this past month and with that came a very exciting new step in her "skill building" of domestic tasks....that sounds so fancy....nope she has been waiting for this for awhile now. She got to take her first 2 sewing classes. She has been taking individual hand stitching lessons from my mother in law...but this past weekend she got to use a machine and learn some exciting new things....including the use of many of the 60 stitches that the machine has on it. ( I rarely use more than about 3 of them) So she had two days back to back....a total of 7 hours in class. I was surprised she still had energy after the classes....but she was so excited.

The first day she went with no expectations...and she left with not only a mini project in hand but some new little sewing friends!!!!

The second day we had to come prepared with fabric in hand so she could make her next project. So the night before I let her go thru my many fabric stashes to pick out what she needed....after some time she picked her fabric out and we packed up all her supplies for the class and she was ready to tackle the next day in class.....and when she came home I just could not believe what she made.... She is also being introduced to the iron....she told us it was easy to use since she has seen me use it a lot..(the sad part is I only use it to iron my fabric when I am sewing not to press clothes)

These pics were meant to be previous posts all on their own....well we can see that never happened! So I am putting them all together today with brief descriptions to make it all one post. On our camping trip out to the Anza Borego Desert....Sally came with us. This was the only shade in our entire campsite...and she needed it....she was such a good pup...she walked and hung out with us all weekend...and even slept so quietly in the tent!!!!

I think she is smiling in this one....

I recently purchased an ipad. I saved up my money over the last few months and went and made the purchase of a 1st gen ipad when they announced the drop in price by 100 bucks...I am still learning how to use it and get all the fun I can out of it...but this is a common sight in this house now...and there is much begging involved! So can I just say that I have leverage!!!!

And Rory's new item.....This was her official present from us. She is getting so tall....4'2"....that her little 16" bike she got from 3 years ago was just not cutting it any longer...so she was upgraded to a 20" bike and wow what a difference. However a very unexpected thing happened...she cried about it and did not want to use her new bike....well after some words with dad and some seat lowering all was smoothed out...and she loves her new bike (and fits on it much better)

Okay so we are getting closer to the end of the month....it is the 22nd...I have 9 days left on my intense strict diet.....my goal again for those that have not been following was to drop 10 pounds this month that would put me at 160lbs.

Last week I weighed in at 165.1 (Tuesday)

Today: 161.8 lbs

YIPEE!!!!

Only 1.8lbs to go for the month....

I am getting so close. I know I can do it....in my head I hear "I think I can, I think I can!"

Brian has completed and met his goal and is still trucking along. I wont let him jump off the wagon mid month he has to go all month with me...even if he triples my goal!

Ten on Tuesday

This week will be an off week because the girls only go to school one day this week and we do all the rest at home...
And we have parent/teacher conferences....why did I schedule them so early in the morning....I must have been having a duh moment.
Ok peeps...I am down to 162 lbs I am getting closer to my monthly goal...hoping I can get down to 160 by the end of the month (good things its a longer month!)
We (Rory and I) have a research project ahead of us this unit...and it gets to be an insect report...oh goodie....I hate insects!
I went to TJ Maxx last night and had so much fun with a good friend of mine...we picked thru stuff to find exactly what we needed....what I needed...nothing...what I got...three new tees that I can wear to the gym or just anywhere...
I am very pleased with my deals and sweet tees!
The girls went to a science fair on Saturday and informed today that they want to be beauty shop girls and scientists when they grow up....wow that is great...will they experiment on hair or in a lab?
Can I just mention that my girls have learned to tie their own shoes....Nordy's offers a free shoe tying class and so I signed them up and they were taught and picked up on it very very fast....it sometimes just takes someone else teaching them.
So you should check with your local Nordy's to see what they have to offer...this week down here is a kids fashion show...all free!
Am I a bit crazy to already be thinking about Mother's Day....maybe....but sometimes being prepared gives you more options....think on that this week!

The Finale to Turning 8!

We discovered that the Corvette Diner is the coolest place EVER to have your birthday when you are 8 years old! Its fun, magical and very girly! Rory was given the option to take 2 friends with her to the diner for her birthday dinner....it was perfect! Enjoy some fun pics and highlights.

Birthday Weekend-Camping Style!

Off to the desert for a weekend of camping birthday fun! Rory turns 8 today so we took the opportunity to enjoy the desert before it got too hot! So we were off to Agua Caliente last Friday! It is a San Diego County Park...and it takes about 2 hours to get out there. So we left Friday and headed on out there.
We set up camp and started having fun!
How cool is this? They have a swimming pool that is naturally fed! So we had the opportunity to cool off after all the fun!

So pretty! The desert is so different from the mountains we are used to going to! I was just in awe of the amazing beautiful view!

I know its not the best picture but its fun. I was trying to take a pic of the girls roasting marshmallows and Rory started to move and this is what we got. You can see that we are wearing shorts because it was not cold....loved it!

Tuesday's Ten

Today was official weigh in day....officially weighed in at 167.1!!! So that is officially down like 3.5lbs since last week. My goal was 5....its all good a little bit at a time is my thought on it.
The girls had spring pictures today....I totally forgot about it and well I am interested in seeing how those come out!
Why do the girls love these Barbie movies so much....they drive me crazy!
The girls got new undies today....they were in need of bigger sizes...its amazing how fast they grow and how undies is one thing you have to buy....you just can not ignore it.
Did a run/walk with my sister today. It went well. I think we both will be sore tomorrow.
I am extra tired today. No explanation.
I made ice cream this past weekend. Thin Mint ice cream....oh it was wondrous!!!!Creamy and minty!!!just what I needed.
Countdown for Rory's camping weekend. We leave on Friday for the desert and birthday celebrations.
Abi has her dentist appointment tomorrow I am praying for no cavities....it would be a nice treat for the day!

I weighed in on Tuesday and was 170.6 yikers...
Oh well I am on my way to drop these lbs!

Today I weighed in at 166.9

Yipee!!!!

My goal for the month of March is to drop 10 pounds.... I know I can do it if I just stick with it.

Then I only have 10 more pounds for my goal weight of 150!!!!

De-Bunking

I have been on the thinking path of do I or don't I seperate the girls bunk beds....they have been bunk beds since we got them when Abi was nearly 2...so 3 1/2 years now....its been great to have more room for them to play and it worked well with their room. Here is the scoop....as Rory is getting older she is getting bigger...and that is causing a problem with being comfortable in bed. She had the top bunk so there was no way to stretch out over the bed and move around freely....she is going to turn 8 and I figure she is just going to be getting bigger....

So......I asked Brian if he would help me today while the girlies were at school to seperate the bunks...I definetly could not do it by myself....so we lifted the top one off...did a little switch-a-roo of footboards and headboards and whalla! We changed the rest of the room around to accomadate there now being two beds in the room (well 2 that needed floor space).

I thought for sure Rory would freak out and loose it 1) because she does not do well with change and 2) because she would loose her privacy from Abi. But I was proved wrong when they came home from school and proceeded to jump and scream with excitement. They told me that is just how they have "always" wanted it. Well I am happy to oblige!

Now the test will be tonight with bed time...can they fall asleep with all the new things to see in the room????

Of course I am one day late at posting....its the story of my life!
Finally went to the OB/GYN after not going in since Abi was born....(if you are shaking your finger at me I know I know). The visit was just put off....but finally I went in....all is good and we did a little extra blood work to determine those crazy hormone levels...I sometimes feel I am going crazy!
I finally broke down and got one of those non-condensating cups....love it. The ice stays for a long time....and its cute too!!!!
So day 2 on our intense diet regime is going strong...hard to resist all the crapola I really want to eat but I have to remember why I am doing this....
Anyone seen the new i-pad2 that goes on sale next week....I am in love with it!
Saving up for something fun like that for myself!
Had to finally break down and have "the talk" with my girls explaining the difference between boy and girls.....it went well but oh my why do they have to ask questions?
Looking forward to Rory's birthday this month...she is gonna be 8....holy cow! I can not believe its been 8 years already!
At this point in my pregnancy 8 years ago I was on bed rest....and she still came 2 weeks early....I am so glad I don't have to do bed rest ever again!
Back to the dr.'s again...why did the lab tech who drew my blood keep calling Mrs. he was like 18 and it made me feel really really old!

The girls had their last woodworking class last Friday...and their final project was a rubber band race car. These things are super cool! So they brought them home all raw wood...so we decided they needed to be spiffed up....we needed paint and we needed to get crafty!Here they are working on their cars....
Both of them were so thrilled to do this. We spent our rainy day on Saturday taking this project on.
Concentration...painting is a tough job...

Well I know its hard to tell with a fleece pull over and jeans on...but I am 14 pounds lighter than I was last year....so I have a goal to reach still...but I am a few pounds shy of being half way to my goal. Last month with everyone getting so sick in the house my diet and exercise plan went out the window but now things have been better.

So starting tomorrow Brian and I have made the commitment to be back on our intense diet and exercise plan again. Hoping to drop 10 pounds this month (march) and he 15 pounds....I know he can meet his goal with no problem....but why is so hard for women to loose weight????

Oh well....I will just keep trucking along and do what I can. So luck to me for a good healthy start to March!!!!

Another Round of Babies

Another round of babies are sweeping in this year....(thankfully not for me)!

So I have been busy with these....

I have decided that these are the perfect gift especially for the not first timer's...because I know you would all agree with me....the burp cloths always look the grossest after you pull them out of storage...not sure why but the stains get more pronounced after you unpack them between babies....so why not some new pretty burp cloths!

(For the first time moms these are good too...but with some other first time necessities of course.)

So these are for one mom who is expecting a girl and the other a boy....it worked out perfect because I had just enough cloth diapers to make these.....

I hope they enjoy them and I hope they can replace any icky, stained ones!

My BOM's are caught up!

So I have 2 sets of BOM's to complete each month. I am doing it in 1800's fabric and then in a black and white with a bright. So each month the fabrics are changing but the block design will be the same. So there are 4 blocks to complete each month...make that 8 for me! So I now have all of Jan & Feb done...and so we can start on March blocks on Tuesday!!!! Yipee...Here are the newer blocks...

Jan. Black and White with the green bright.Feb. Black and White with the pink bright (quite fitting for Valentines I think)And the Feb 1800's. Pink again....must be the month for sure.

Well not much to report here except its FRIDAY! We have a slow weekend planned...I am hoping to only leave the house to go to the gym or grocery store (only if needed). This cold weather is fun only when we get to stay inside....you know us southern California folk are not used to anything under 60 degrees...so when they told us to expect it to drop to 30 degrees tonight...my jaw hit the floor...and then they mentioned snow fall here maybe tomorrow morning...of course nothing will stick here but it sure will in the local mountains...

So I am hoping with staying in for the weekend will allow me time to finish up my February Block of the Month blocks and get some mending done...I have several of the girls clothes that need mending....do people still do mending??? I have to if I want them to wear their clothes longer...otherwise I would be buying new clothes all the time. I really want to work on a special something for Rory's birthday coming up....(pics to come if I can get it completed) So maybe come Monday I will have some completed projects to post up here....

On quilt news...I just sent off a finished top to be machined quilted...it will be for a special someone that hopefully will very surprised by it!!! And now I am in the market for baby boy fabric for another baby quilt...we will see if I can get it done soon....yikers!!!

Sew Shop

Well I am attempting to finish all my BOM blocks for February....but have I mentioned I am teaching my baby sister and her friend to do these as well. We are going thru all the basics of cutting, using the machine and piecing these blocks piece by piece!!!! It has been a growing experience for me...I have never had the opportunity to teach someone these skills so I am learning week by week how to teach what I already have in my head...its much harder than you think it will be!

I can not believe how long it has been since I posted...I have been having blog withdrawals....yikes! Things on the home front have been crazy busy. In Jan we dealt with getting all of the family well and moving again....I can say mission accomplished. We are all back to our normal functions...and we are caught up on our school work and house work (mostly on the last one). This past week we have been crazy busy with life....but we are taking it one day at a time, one moment at a time! Sometimes I tend to take the whole thing instead of breaking it down...hence the stress!

This week was parent/teacher conferences at school. So even though I am the teacher 60% of the time for the girls I still met with the teachers of both the girls for Tue/Thur and we went over work and effort and all those fun things. I know this may surprise some of you but Rory is pretty much perfect in the classroom and Abi is a little social butterfly that needs to be reminded to pay attention....hmmm....not like I didn't see that one coming! So on to second semester we go...I am surprised by the fact that we are halfway thru school and I have seen such progress in both the girls since September...Reading, Writing, Math....all have improved. I am also happy to report Abi is making great effort to start reading...she has the sounds down and actively tries to read....she has a long ways to go but the effort is well worth it right now!

So we are off to do some more work and some laundry today....Wishing you all a great day!!!

Abi enjoyed some one on one time today and you know what she asked to do....she asked to help me do my chores....well I was not going to say no...so we did dishes together, laundry (both sorting and folding), bathroom cleaning, and we even got a cake and dinner prepped! She is such a great helper and I just love that she loves it!

I love that she can be so spiffed up to do the cleaning....I wish I could wear such pretty clothes when I clean! And this was daddy and Abi spending some quality time together building legos on one of our rainy days before she and he got sick...they built the whole house....some good quality time and they spent all day building!!!

BOM 2011

This is my BOM "Block of the Month" for 2011....

This is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time but schedule's and BOM choices have always made me say no....but this one I know I can do...not because I already knew the technique but because I was willing to learn it and spend the time and energy doing it....and of course the price was right!!!!! 5.00 a month to make 4 blocks and you got to choose between 3 fabric themes....I chose this fabric "1800's" fabric for mine. Each month the block will be the same but the fabric will vary....I am so excited....!!!! I made this block yesterday and can not wait for my house to be on the mends from pneumonia so I can make the other 3!!!!!

Well there has been a yucky bug lingering in our house since last Tuesday
First Brian, then Rory and Abi....
As of now I am in the clear....hopefully it stays that way
You know you are tired and have given all you have to give when at 2am while taking care of your sick kids you fall into a lump in the hallway and start to ball!
The jobs that a mom does never ends....NEVER!
I have been cooped up in my house for one week! I am going crazy!
I so am dying for a run, workout and bike ride...anything! I am loosing my mind!
On a side note I worked on a puzzle yesterday and helped complete it....for those that know me you know I HATE PUZZLES! but I got hooked on this one yesterday!
Now what do I do with the puzzle are you supposed to take it apart after all that hard work...?
I think it is time to take all the Christmas Music off of my i Pod and put all the other stuff back on it!YUP!

Another Project Completed

This was another project I worked on in 2010 and completed for little baby Paige for Christmas. I tried for the first time a tumbler style block and I decided I liked it...I loved the colors and the overall appearance of the final project. It was not as easy as regular blocks because there is a lot of piecing and making sure your pieces line up....but it was fun to do something new and exciting! Paige is being such a good sport here sitting on her new quilt.....

I completed several projects this holiday season....these are just two of them. The others will post soon...I hope. My parents love their trailer and love camping so this vintage trailer fabric was perfect for them. I made this larger lap quilt for them to use in their trailer and camping adventures....and my sister is there in the pic too...modeling the apron I made her since she is learning how to cook...and every cook should have an apron!

This is the quilt I made for my new nephew Jake...(born 11-4-10) this was a tough quilt for me to make and finish. The minkie was very stretchy so it was hard to keep it straight. And the gal who quilted it for me mentioned it was tough too...so most likely I will not be making another...Jake has the one and only of this kind that I will ever make! His mom and dad are modeling it for me...this quilt is by far the warmest ever...working under it was making me break out in a massive sweat! But I am hoping he will enjoy laying on, under it and using it till its thread bare!!!(those are the best kind)

This is an up close of the vintage trailers on the quilt I made for my parents...its not a pre-done panel on the middle I just cut a panel out of a chunk of fabric...this one was fun to make...I used Kona Ash color on the backing...solid yet distinctive!

2010 in review

We are ready to ring in the new year....2011 here we come...ready-set-go! But before we can get there lets review some fun 2010 memories.

Abi started Kindergarten.

Rory learns how to read chapter books.

Rory looses plenty of teeth (taking all the tooth fairy has to give)

We get Strep Throat for the first time ever in our house.

We also (me personally) had pneumonia for the first time ever.

We got to go back to Panama City Beach, FL for a wonderful vacation.

And got to experience New Orleans on that same vacation.

My Sister graduated from high school

I began to loose weight and have successfully lost over 17 pounds in 2010!

We began our adventures in camping this summer and look forward to plenty more camping in 2011!

Baby Jake makes his appearance in 2010 The Simpsons can not be more excited to add to the cousins roster!

Rory learns how to start sewing and makes several of her first pieces of "work"

We are ready to take on 2011 and make great strides in schooling and fun of course! Rory and I have sewing lessons planned and Abi and I have play time planned! The girls are looking forward to going back to school next week. Rory will continue to swim for the swim team. Brian will continue his work on his Firm and at the school. I will continue to sew and quilt and hopefully take on learning something new. I am already committed to doing a block of the month starting in January. This will be my first time doing this and making a commitment to doing it. Now we are stepping into the new year with 2 sickos under our roof and 2 of us well just waiting to get sick of course. But we still openly welcome 2011!

Weigh-In Post Christmas

Christmas was as normal a stressful week....not sure if it is for you...but its a week of last minute buys and tons of wrapping and driving to homes of celebration....and of course there in the midst of Christmas are all the treats and wonderful yet fat filled foods...Brian and I decided not to make a big deal of the holiday eating...but to just take it easy. Snacking was not necessary and to just have the right portions of food....so I was in that exact mind set beginning Christmas Eve (our Christmas celebration with Brian's side this year)....and then Christmas Day was yummy breakfast and all day food as well....I seemed full for like 3 days straight...it is tough being that full and uncomfortable. It reminds you that you do not like feeling that way and you enjoy being on a diet and regular exercise....it makes you happier.

So after all of that I weighed myself this morning with much anxiety and to much surprise I dropped weight...I am not at 166.6lbs. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? Because I sure as heck can't! I am so thrilled and excited....its all paying off. About 6 weeks ago I was set to loose 10 pounds by the new year (yes even through all this holiday eating business) but it looks like I will fall short with only about 5 pounds lost in those 6 weeks....but hey I have to believe that any weight lost through the holidays and kept off is a success!

We went to the Family Christmas Party this past weekend...and it was so great getting to hang out! The girls love getting dressed up and getting to see the huge Christmas Tree!!!! Well its been awhile since I checked in on my weight loss....A lot has happened in the last two weeks...on top of it being the worst time of year to try to loose weight...but despite being sick and battling sickness spreading in the house I have dropped some more weight....I weighed in this morning at 168.3 yikes!!!! Ladies and gentleman I have broke 170 and plan on staying away from going back up...I love that I broke the plateau...YAY!!! I am doing a little dance...can you just picture it! I hope the rest of the week can be a success with all the Christmas meals and treats!!! I am getting my workouts in and plan on working out next week...but I still want to enjoy the holidays just not by eating too much!!! Let's hope I can find a balance!

So the total weight lost so far is 15.7 pounds...

A Busy Couple of Days!

We have sure been busy the last 2 days....we have had my sister and her 3 kiddos with us for the last 2 days and wowsers it has been a whirlwind of fun! All of the cousins had so much playing together and having fun and just getting to enjoy time together....they got to play outside thanks to the wonderful San Diego sunshine being out the last few days!!!! So we decorated sugar cookies, played beauty shop, legos, princesses, Buzz, and lots of other fun stuff....got to go to bed later than normal and even enjoyed some chocolate (from Aunty Peris)....I love getting to see all the cousins together and spending quality time and making memories together that hopefully they will remember forever!!!!

Here are the kids all actually smiling at the camera while decorating their sugar cookies....And the beauty shop is very busy as you can see....they are hard at work on getting Abi just right!
And on top of all of that me and my sister getting to chill (while not dealing with one of the kids) and just hang out and chat was so much fun....we even had my younger sister over and we enjoyed watching White Christmas together last night.....we used to watch that all the time when we were younger at home...it was fun to just be silly and hang out!!!!

I finally got my Pink Martini CD...they were carrying it at Starbucks this Holiday Season....I am so excited. I love Pink Martini...if you have not heard their music you should go googling....
We got our tree up this past weekend. The girls had fun decorating the tree and getting all the Christmas stuff up.

We got the lights on the house. And of course had to sport the Charger jerseys...and I think it helped lead to a Charger victory!

It was chilly....but that made it even more Christmasy

Results Finally!

Hello!!!! I am happy to report I am officially 170lbs....now that may seem like a lot but hey its 1.9 pounds lighter than I was last week....so my plateau looks like it decided to leave...yay...now just to head into Thanksgiving on a winning note is good but will it stay...we hit the gym last night and plan to tomorrow and Thursday morning...trying to burn some of the possible intake calories....hoping to break the 170 mark in the next week.....this will be a big milestone!!!!
These are pics of me with my newest little nephew Jake from this past Sunday...He will be 3 weeks old on Thanksgiving....he is still so small....but I know in no time he will chunk up....and I love chunky babies...don't you????

The boots I am wearing(not that you can see them very well) I bought last year but really did not like wearing them because they were too tight in the calves.....well I have more room now...so I am all about wearing them....yay for winter boots!!!

I am doing a little jig....its Friday its Friday ya ya ya! Well maybe its not the best jig ever but hey its something....so lets celebrate with a little five on Friday....

Um....the cold, rainy weather came back in over night....yay!
We are officially on Thanksgiving break...but the mean mom that I am will still make her kiddos do a little bit of work next week....
I started personally writing notes in my Christmas cards last night....that way I can do a few every night.
The flip flops I chose this morning are not going to work out today with all this wetness on the ground...my luck I will go slipping and sliding all over the place.
So off to my closet again to try to find something more suitable for this fun weather.

Well I sit here on the couch this morning I am listening to the noise upstairs....little voices and little feet. I am sometimes saddened by the fact that my little girls are growing up....they have new toys and outgrow the young ones....reading chapter books instead of touch & feel books, watching movies other than Disney animated ones....and of course being able to converse with others in a fashion that shows they are growing up....so after saying all of that...

Rory is taking mini sewing lessons from my MIL. I decided it would be best for her to get the beginning lessons from someone other than me....hopefully making it more fun and enjoyable....peaking an interest and then I can come in later and teach some as well. Rory has enjoyed the sewing time and the projects with such passion. She loves it! I am so excited. I hope she continues to love and enjoy it.

Well I know I have not updated in awhile on my weight loss goals...

Well as of today I have still only lost 13 pounds...I am a size 12...down from a 16! But it is weird...even the 12 is feeling big...but no more pounds have been dropped...so I must be toning and gaining muscle....well that is what I hoping for. My shirts are fitting nicer. My boobs are getting smaller...life is great...it all makes me smile.

So another update which I know I have not let on to at all....is my hair!!! Yes you read that right my hair is finally thickening up and is looking shinier!!! Now many women have been blessed with great, thick hair....I used to be one of those gals...but after my second pregnancy I began to loose my hair and well it has been excessive for these past 5 years....so now I have taken matters into my own hands...on top of taking medication for my hypothyroid issues...I am now taking a supplement Biotin(for hair and nail growth) and I have bought 2 shampoos to alternate between for thicker shinier hair....and yup I can see and feel a difference! At just that has made my day!!!
